Hunting knives

Hunting knives need to be sharpened regularly if you plan to use them to do hunting. Because the meat and skin you will use the knife to tear through may not be easy to cut, having a sharp and effective knife can save you a lot of time.

In order to sharpen hunting knives, do the following:

• Check out the blade. Look to see if there are any nicks on the knife. Damaged areas should be grinded down if the damage is not too drastic. If it is a bad nick, you might need to get a new blade.

• If the blade is still workable, run it down the length of a piece of paper to figure out how dull it has become. Ultimately, you are going to want to have a clean, straight cut. If there are jagged tears, this is a good indication that the blade needs sharpening.

• Get a sharpening stone and begin to work on the edge of the blade of the hunting knives. Honing oil can be used to aid this process. Just applying a little oil to the stone will be enough.

• To sharpen the knife, drag its blade across the sharpening stone at the same angle at which the original blade was created. By looking at the knife’s blade edge, you will have a better idea of the angle to draw across the stone.

• Lastly, pull the hunting knives’ blades slowly and extra carefully toward your body at the proper angle. Continue this process until the blade is so sharp that it will easily be able to slice through a sheet of paper.
