Knife block

Even though a knife block is a nice accessory to have, it is also dangerous for children because it is usually accessible and easy to reach. In order to keep your kids from danger, you may want to consider making a knife block to put out of reach. Here is how you can do it:

• Lay out the grooves in the woods for the knives. You should have a total of three pieces of hardwood for this knife block. Mark lines horizontally across two of the boards that you have at the ¾ inch mark and 1 5/8 inch mark.

• Next, you should carefully cut four 3/16-inch-deep grooves in the block with a saw in both of the 1 5/8 sections. Use a chisel to remove any wood between the grooves. It is not important if the grooves are not perfectly smooth since most of it will not even be seen.

• Take all three pieces of wood and assemble them together. Use glue on the adjacent grooves to clamp them all together.

• Sand the sides and the bottom of the knife block. The wood should be stained to match the woodwork.

• Next, the process of putting the knife block in its proper place begins. Drill four shank holes from the outside of the outline drawn under the cabinet. Then, with one hand hold the knife block in the place it belongs while you mark the proper holes with a pencil in your other hand.

• Drill the holes and mount the knife block under the cabinet. Now all you need to do is put the knives in place and the knife block is done.
