If you are the type of person who likes to be out in the wilderness, a survival knife is definitely something that could be beneficial to you. But if you are looking for a knife like this, it might be best to make sure the knife includes the features you need.

Some of the most useful survival knife features include:

• Compass – A compass is an excellent feature that comes along with many survival knives. These compasses are often included on the bottom part of the knife and can usually be unscrewed and used even when they are not on the knives themselves. A compass is a great survival tool and if the survival knife you buy does not have one, you should look for a compass to purchase separately.

• Matches – In many knives, the handle of the knife includes a hollow area where vital things can be stored. Often the compass can be unscrewed from the bottom of the knife. When this is unscrewed, it opens the hollow area. Matches are one of the main items that are often kept in this area. It is important to make sure this area seals tight in order to avoid ruining the matches by getting them wet.

• Serrated blade and a sharp tip – The survival knife itself should include a blade that is serrated and includes a sharp tip. The serrated blade can be useful for cutting into the meat of an animal or to simply cut some rope when putting up a camping tent. The sharp tip is also important if you need to stab the knife into a tree or other place.

• Sharpening stone – A knife holder and a sharpening stone are two other very important aspects of the survival knife, even though they are not part of the knife itself. Both of these items can help keep the knife in good working order.
